Pioneer Industrial Instruments has manufactured cable trays at Pirangut, Pune since 1994. Our perforated trays are load tested to failure at an NABL-accredited laboratory under the single-span uniformly distributed load condition of NEMA VE 1, with deflection recorded at every step as IEC 61537:2023 requires, together with galvanising, salt spray, tensile and chemical tests on the same samples. The laboratory reports are published on this page, so the same tray family can be submitted against a US-engineered specification or an IEC / BS EN / SASO / SANS specification with the evidence attached.
Export shipments leave FOB Nhava Sheva (JNPT, Mumbai) on Incoterms 2020. We prepare the technical file for SABER, PVoC, SONCAP and project material-approval submittals, and the plant is open to pre-shipment inspection. For IEC-specified projects see our IEC 61537:2023 cable trays page; for UK-led consultant specifications see BS EN 61537 cable trays.
Three different things get called "certification" on export enquiries, and consultants usually need all three in one package:
| Requirement | What it is | Where it is asked for | What Pioneer provides |
|---|---|---|---|
| NEMA VE 1 (Metal Cable Tray Systems) | US manufacturers' standard. Fixes support span (8, 12, 16 or 20 ft) and working load (A = 50, B = 75, C = 100 lb/ft) and requires a 1.5 safety factor at failure plus a 200 lb mid-span concentrated load. Compliance is self-declared by the manufacturer and backed by a third-party test report — NEMA itself issues no certificate. | Saudi Aramco, SABIC, ADNOC and other oil and gas owner specs written by US EPCs; hyperscale data centres; US-format MEP specs in the GCC, Egypt, Iraq, Nigeria and Mozambique LNG and mining projects. | NABL laboratory load-to-failure reports (single span, UDL) giving working loads above class 8C at a 1.5 safety factor; Manufacturer's Certificate of Compliance quoting the report numbers; class marking on every length. |
| IEC 61537:2023 and its adoptions (BS EN 61537, SASO IEC 61537, SANS 61537:2023) | International standard. Manufacturer declares safe working load per span; tested for deflection, electrical continuity, impact and corrosion classification. | UK-led consultants in the UAE, Qatar and Oman; the Saudi national standard; South Africa and most of Commonwealth Africa; Indian MNC and pharma projects. | Manufacturer's declaration of conformity to IEC 61537:2023 supported by NABL laboratory reports: load–deflection curves (within L/100 at working load), zinc coating thickness and uniformity, salt spray, tensile and chemical analysis. |
| Import conformity certificate (SABER SCoC, PVoC CoC, SONCAP SC) | A customs-clearance document issued per shipment by a government-approved inspection body. It does not replace the product standard — it checks that the shipment matches the declared standard and technical file. | Saudi Arabia (every shipment), Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana and several other African markets. | Technical file, test reports, material certificates, packing list and plant access for the inspection agency appointed by your importer. |
| Country | Key project cities and zones | Product standard usually specified | Import / project approval |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia | Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Al Khobar, Jubail Industrial City, Yanbu, Ras Tanura, Rabigh, NEOM / Tabuk, Mecca, Medina | SASO IEC 61537 is the national standard. NEMA VE 1 (typically heavy-duty 16 ft and 20 ft classes) on Saudi Aramco, SABIC, Ma'aden and giga-project specs written by US EPCs. Hot-dip galvanising to ASTM A123 is the usual finish. | SABER Shipment Certificate of Conformity on every consignment, raised by the Saudi importer. Cable trays are generally a non-regulated product: technical file plus self-declaration through a SASO-approved conformity assessment body. Owner vendor-list registration (Aramco, SEC) is separate from customs conformity. |
| United Arab Emirates | Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Al Ain, Ruwais, Jebel Ali, KEZAD (Khalifa Economic Zone) | BS EN 61537 on UK-led consultant specs; NEMA VE 1 on ADNOC, US data-centre and US-EPC specs. HDG to BS EN ISO 1461 or ASTM A123; SS 316L for coastal and district-cooling plants. | Cable trays are not in a mandatory product-registration category. Approval is at project level: consultant material submittal, and DEWA / ADDC / ADNOC approved-vendor requirements where the owner applies them. |
| Qatar | Doha, Lusail, Ras Laffan Industrial City, Mesaieed, Al Wakrah, Al Khor, Dukhan | Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS) electrical sections reference BS EN 61537; NEMA VE 1 on QatarEnergy and US-EPC industrial work. | Material submittal and Kahramaa approval on utility-connected projects; no separate product-level import certificate for cable trays. |
| Kuwait | Kuwait City, Ahmadi, Shuaiba, Mina Abdullah, Al Zour, Jahra, Sabah Al Ahmad | KOC, KNPC, KIPIC and MEW specifications — NEMA VE 1 is common on oil and gas, BS EN 61537 on building services. | KUCAS (TER / TIR) applies to regulated product categories; cable trays are generally outside it — confirm with the importer's conformity body per shipment. |
| Oman and Bahrain | Muscat, Sohar, Duqm, Salalah, Sur, Nizwa; Manama, Sitra, Hidd, Riffa | PDO, OQ and Bapco specifications cite IEC 61537 or NEMA VE 1 depending on the engineering contractor; building services follow BS EN 61537. | Project material approval; no product-level import certificate for cable trays. |
| Egypt | Cairo, New Administrative Capital, Alexandria, Ain Sokhna, Suez, Port Said, Damietta, 10th of Ramadan City, 6th of October City | Egyptian Standards (EOS) adopt IEC; NEMA VE 1 on petrochemical, LNG and US-funded projects. | GOEIC import inspection at port; test reports and certificate of origin required with the shipment. |
| Iraq and Jordan | Basra, Baghdad, Erbil, Kirkuk, Rumaila, Umm Qasr; Amman, Aqaba, Zarqa | Oil and gas and power projects led by US or international EPCs specify NEMA VE 1; infrastructure and buildings follow IEC / BS EN 61537. | Pre-shipment inspection is frequently required by the EPC or owner rather than by customs; Pioneer supports the inspection at plant. |
Africa buys cable trays on IEC 61537 and galvanising quality, not on NEMA — except on US-engineered projects. The paperwork that stops shipments is the pre-shipment Certificate of Conformity, so the product standard and the import certificate have to be planned together.
| Market | Key project cities and zones | Product standard usually specified | Pre-shipment conformity requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| South Africa | Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Richards Bay, Secunda, Sasolburg, Rustenburg, Saldanha Bay | SANS 61537:2023 (identical adoption of IEC 61537:2023); HDG to SANS 121 / ISO 1461. Mining houses and Eskom-related projects specify SANS and ask for independent test verification. | SABS is phasing in a PVoC programme during 2026; whether cable trays fall in scope depends on the regulated-product list at the time of shipment — confirm with the importer before booking. |
| Kenya | Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Naivasha, Eldoret, Lamu | KS / BS EN 61537; HDG to ISO 1461. | KEBS PVoC: Certificate of Conformity issued before shipment by a KEBS-appointed agent (SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek, Cotecna and others). Goods arriving without a CoC face destination inspection with penalty charges. |
| Tanzania and Uganda | Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Arusha, Mwanza, Mtwara; Kampala, Entebbe, Jinja, Hoima | TBS / UNBS adoptions of IEC 61537; BS EN 61537 on consultant specs. | TBS PVoC and UNBS PVoC Certificates of Conformity, same agent model as Kenya. |
| Nigeria | Lagos, Lekki, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Bonny Island, Onne, Warri, Kano, Ibadan | NIS / BS EN 61537 on building and infrastructure; NEMA VE 1 on NLNG, offshore and US-EPC oil and gas work. | SONCAP: a Product Certificate for the product range, then a SONCAP Certificate per shipment uploaded to the Nigeria Customs portal. Electrical products and fittings are within SONCAP scope. |
| Ghana | Accra, Tema, Takoradi, Kumasi | GS / BS EN 61537; NEMA VE 1 on offshore oil and gas. | Ghana Standards Authority conformity assessment through an appointed inspection agency for regulated goods. |
| Ethiopia | Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Hawassa, Adama | ES adoptions of IEC 61537. | Certificate of Conformity through the Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise (ECAE) scheme for regulated goods. |
| North Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia) | Algiers, Oran, Arzew, Skikda, Hassi Messaoud; Casablanca, Tangier, Rabat, Jorf Lasfar, Kenitra; Tunis, Sfax | National adoptions of IEC / EN 61537; NEMA VE 1 on Sonatrach and US-EPC hydrocarbon projects. | Pre-shipment Certificate of Conformity through an accredited inspection agency for regulated goods; scope varies by country and HS code. |
| Southern and Central Africa (Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, DRC) | Maputo, Beira, Nacala, Pemba, Palma; Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola, Solwezi; Harare, Bulawayo; Gaborone, Francistown; Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Kolwezi | SANS / IEC-based specifications via South African EPCs; NEMA VE 1 on Mozambique LNG and US-led mining projects. | Consignment-based conformity schemes exist in several countries (for example Zimbabwe CBCA); confirm the destination's current regulated list with the importer. |
A NEMA VE 1 class is the support span in feet followed by the working-load letter. The tray must carry the working load uniformly distributed over a simple span with a 1.5 safety factor at failure, and separately support a 200 lb (90 kg) concentrated load at mid-span.
| Working load | 8 ft (2.4 m) span | 12 ft (3.7 m) span | 16 ft (4.9 m) span | 20 ft (6.1 m) span |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A — 50 lb/ft (74 kg/m) | 8A | 12A | 16A | 20A |
| B — 75 lb/ft (112 kg/m) | 8B | 12B | 16B | 20B |
| C — 100 lb/ft (149 kg/m) | 8C | 12C | 16C | 20C |
Chakan Testing and Research Lab, Pune (ISO/IEC 17025:2017, NABL certificate TC-8638), reports CTRL/2024/J/13757 and 13757-A to 13757-D, October 2024. Hot-dip galvanised perforated trays, 2.0 mm sheet, 2500 mm long, tested as a single simply supported span of 2.35 m under uniformly distributed load, loaded in steps to failure with central deflection recorded at each step.
| Tray W × H × t (mm) | Failure load, total on 2.35 m span | Failure load per metre | Working load at 8 ft (2.44 m), failure ÷ 1.5 | Deflection at working load | NEMA VE 1 class at 8 ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 300 × 75 × 2.0 | 2,252 kg | 958 kg/m | 592 kg/m (398 lb/ft) | 18 mm | 8C — 4.0 × class C load |
| 200 × 50 × 2.0 | 1,294 kg | 551 kg/m | 341 kg/m (229 lb/ft) | 13 mm | 8C — 2.3 × |
| 150 × 50 × 2.0 | 1,961 kg | 834 kg/m | 516 kg/m (347 lb/ft) | 15 mm | 8C — 3.5 × |
| 100 × 50 × 2.0 | 1,701 kg | 724 kg/m | 448 kg/m (301 lb/ft) | 14 mm | 8C — 3.0 × |
| 50 × 50 × 2.0 | 584 kg | 249 kg/m | 154 kg/m (103 lb/ft) | 9 mm | 8C at 1.03 × — declared 8B |
Working load at 8 ft is the failure load per metre adjusted from the 2.35 m test span by the square of the span ratio and divided by the NEMA VE 1 safety factor of 1.5. Deflection at working load is read from the laboratory's load–deflection table on the test span; every section stays inside the IEC 61537 limit of L/100 (23.5 mm). Classes at 12, 16 and 20 ft spans have not been tested at this stage and are tested on project requirement; for a spec calling 12C, 16B or 20C we confirm which sections qualify or quote a heavier side rail that does. Ladder and wire mesh trays are supplied with load tables; span tests for those families are arranged against the project specification.
| Test | Method | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Zinc coating thickness (hot-dip galvanised) | IS 3203 | 92.4–97.6 µm, average 95 µm |
| Uniformity of zinc coating (Preece) | IS 10810-40 | 3 dips, no copper deposit — meets the standard |
| Coating adhesion (hammer test) | IS 4759 | Free from flux, bare patches, blisters, runs |

| Bend | ISO 7438 | Close bend, 1T former, free from cracks |
Gulf and African oil and gas specifications written in the NEMA format put ladder tray on the main runs and pipe racks, wire mesh in data halls and instrumentation rooms, and perforated tray on branch circuits. Pioneer manufactures all three families at Pirangut and supplies ladder and wire mesh against NEMA VE 1 specifications with manufacturer's load tables, material certificates per lot and the same steel and galvanising qualities recorded in the published laboratory reports; family-specific span tests at the NABL laboratory are arranged where a project calls for a class certificate on ladder or mesh.
| Family | Construction | Materials and finishes | Where it is specified under NEMA VE 1 | Documentation |
|---|---|---|---|---|

All export orders ship FOB Nhava Sheva (JNPT, Mumbai) on Incoterms 2020; CFR / CIF to the nearest port on request. Tell us the destination and HS code at enquiry stage so that the conformity paperwork (SABER, PVoC, SONCAP or the owner's inspection) is aligned before production starts.
No manufacturer is "NEMA certified" — NEMA is a standards body, not a certifier, so there is no NEMA certificate for cable trays. The correct claim is NEMA VE 1 compliant. Pioneer's perforated trays have been load tested to failure as a simply supported span under uniformly distributed load — the NEMA VE 1 test condition — at an NABL-accredited laboratory (Chakan Testing and Research Lab, Pune, October 2024), and every tested section carries more than 1.5 times the class 8C working load. Pioneer issues a Manufacturer's Certificate of Compliance referencing the report numbers. The full reports are downloadable on this page.
The class is the support span in feet followed by the working-load letter: 12B means 75 lb/ft (112 kg/m) over a 12 ft (3.7 m) span. Most GCC building services specs call 12B or 16B; refineries and pipe racks call 16C or 20C. Pioneer's tested 2 mm perforated sections from 100 to 300 mm wide meet class 8C with a margin of 2.3 to 4 times; the 50 mm section is declared 8B. Classes at 12, 16 and 20 ft spans are tested on project requirement. Send your BOQ or drawings with the support spacing and we will state, item by item, which Pioneer section meets the class or quote a heavier side rail that does.
No. IEC 61537 tests the manufacturer's declared safe working load and checks deflection limits; NEMA VE 1 fixes the span and load class and tests to failure for a 1.5 safety factor. The methods are different, so one report does not substitute for the other. Pioneer's NABL laboratory reports record both the failure load (the NEMA basis) and the deflection at every load step up to failure (the IEC basis — all tested sections stay within the L/100 deflection limit at working load), so one report supports a submittal under either standard. A multi-span IEC type test or a longer-span NEMA test is arranged where a specification demands it.
Every consignment entering Saudi Arabia needs a Shipment Certificate of Conformity raised on the SABER platform by the Saudi importer, whether or not the product is in a regulated category. Cable trays are generally treated as a non-regulated product, which is cleared with a technical file and a self-declaration certificate through a SASO-approved conformity assessment body. Pioneer supplies the technical file: product data sheets, NABL laboratory test reports, Certificate of Compliance, material test certificates and galvanising coating report. Confirm the product category with your importer's conformity assessment body before shipment.
Most of Africa specifies IEC 61537 or its national adoptions — SANS 61537:2023 in South Africa and BS EN 61537 in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and other Commonwealth markets — together with hot-dip galvanising to ISO 1461 / SANS 121 / ASTM A123. NEMA VE 1 is asked for on US-engineered oil and gas, LNG, mining and data-centre projects. Separately from the product standard, many African countries require a pre-shipment Certificate of Conformity before customs clearance: KEBS PVoC in Kenya, TBS and UNBS PVoC in Tanzania and Uganda, SONCAP in Nigeria, and similar schemes elsewhere, issued by inspection agencies such as SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek or Cotecna. Pioneer supports these inspections at the plant and supplies the test reports they require.
Hot-dip galvanised trays are galvanised after fabrication to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461 / IS 4759, with coating thickness measured and reported per lot; the 2 mm perforated tray submitted for laboratory testing measured 95 microns average (IS 3203), passed the uniformity and adhesion tests and showed no rust after 24 hours of neutral salt spray (ASTM B117). Pre-galvanised trays use continuously galvanised sheet to IS 277 / EN 10346. For marine, offshore and chemical-plant environments we recommend SS 316L or aluminium instead of galvanised steel, available in the same tray profiles.
Standard sizes are produced on a daily capacity of up to 8,000 metres, so a container of straight lengths and fittings is normally ready within two to three weeks of drawing approval, subject to galvanising and inspection scheduling. Trays are bundled and palletised for sea freight with edge protection, shipped FOB Nhava Sheva (JNPT, Mumbai) on Incoterms 2020. There is no fixed minimum order for export; a 20-foot container is the usual economic quantity.
Yes. Pioneer's plant at Pirangut, Pune is open to pre-shipment inspection and witness testing. We provide the inspection and test plan, material test certificates, coating thickness readings, dimensional reports and the packing list in advance so that the inspector's visit can be completed in one day.
Send your BOQ, drawings or project specification and we will return a class-by-class compliance statement, the test reports and an FOB Nhava Sheva quotation.
