Pioneer Industrial Instruments manufactures return-flange perforated cable tray, cable ladder and wire basket tray at Pirangut, Pune, declared to BS EN 61537 (identical to EN 61537 and IEC 61537:2023) on the basis of load–deflection, galvanising and corrosion testing at an NABL-accredited laboratory, with the reports published. We supply UK-led consultant specifications in the UK, the Gulf, Commonwealth Africa and Asia: pre-galvanised to BS EN 10346 Z275, hot-dip galvanised after manufacture to BS EN ISO 1461, stainless steel 316L for marine and process areas.
This page is written for the specifier working to BS EN 61537 and BS 7671. For US-format specifications see NEMA VE 1 cable trays.
BS EN 61537 is the BSI publication of EN 61537, the European adoption of IEC 61537 without technical change. It sets the type tests and declarations for cable tray and cable ladder systems: safe working load per span, deflection limits, resistance to corrosion, electrical continuity, impact resistance, temperature range and flame propagation. It does not create a product mark; the consultant checks the manufacturer's test report and declared classifications in the submittal. Pioneer's declaration rests on NABL-accredited laboratory reports (Chakan Testing and Research Lab, Pune, October 2024): load–deflection to failure on 2 mm hot-dip galvanised perforated tray in 50 to 300 mm widths — every section within the L/100 deflection limit at working load — with zinc coating thickness and uniformity, adhesion, salt spray, tensile, chemical and bend tests on the same samples. The full data is on the IEC 61537 page; the reports are downloadable here.

Finish: internal dry areas — pre-galvanised steel to BS EN 10346, coating Z275. Plant rooms, car parks, external and coastal areas — hot-dip galvanised after manufacture to BS EN ISO 1461. Marine, chemical and washdown areas — stainless steel grade 1.4404 (316L). All fittings, couplers, covers and fixings shall be of the same finish as the tray.
Metallic tray shall be electrically continuous across all joints and bonded in accordance with BS 7671. Bonding links shall be fitted at every coupler where the tray forms part of the protective conductor arrangement.
Manufacturer: Pioneer Industrial Instruments (Pioneer Cable Trays), Pune, India, or equal and approved. Submittals shall include the BS EN 61537 type test report, data sheets, BS EN 10204 3.1 material certificates and galvanising coating thickness report.

Yes. BS EN 61537 is the British Standards Institution's publication of EN 61537, which is the European adoption of IEC 61537 without technical change. A tray declared to IEC 61537:2023 meets BS EN 61537; the test evidence is the same set of reports. The difference on a project is only the language of the specification: UK-led consultants write BS EN 61537 and refer to BS EN ISO 1461, BS EN 10346 and BS 7671, and Pioneer's submittals are prepared in that vocabulary.
These are UK trade terms for return-flange perforated tray by flange depth, not classifications in the standard itself: light duty is typically a 12 to 25 mm flange on 0.8 to 1.2 mm sheet, medium duty a 50 mm flange on 1.2 to 1.5 mm, and heavy duty a 75 to 100 mm flange on 1.5 to 2.0 mm. Cable ladder is specified separately by side-rail depth, usually 100 or 150 mm. What the standard adds is a declared safe working load per span for each of these, which is what the consultant should check against the support spacing on the drawings.
Indoor dry areas: pre-galvanised sheet to BS EN 10346, coating designation Z275 (275 g/m² total both faces, roughly 20 microns per face). Plant rooms, car parks, outdoor and coastal areas: hot-dip galvanised after manufacture to BS EN ISO 1461, which gives a minimum mean coating of 55 to 85 microns depending on steel thickness. Marine, chemical and washdown environments: stainless steel 316L. Pioneer manufactures all three and reports coating thickness per lot.
BS EN 61537 is a performance standard, not a marking scheme. Conformity is declared by the manufacturer on the basis of third-party test evidence, and consultants verify it through the material submittal — test reports, declared classifications and data sheets — rather than through a mark on the product. Pioneer supplies the NABL laboratory reports, a declaration of the classifications achieved, and BS EN 10204 3.1 material certificates with each submittal.
Wherever UK-headquartered consultants and contractors lead the design: the UAE, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain; Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa; Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka; and UK-owned pharma, data centre and manufacturing projects in India. Pioneer ships to these markets FOB Nhava Sheva and supports pre-shipment inspection at the Pune plant.
Yes. Send the schedule or the part numbers from the incumbent catalogue and we return a like-for-like equivalence table — width, flange depth, sheet thickness, finish and the BS EN 61537 safe working load at the drawing's support spacing — so the consultant can approve the substitution on technical grounds. Standard widths run 50 to 900 mm in 3 m lengths with matching bends, tees, risers, reducers, couplers and covers.
Send the cable containment schedule or the specification clause and we will return a BS EN 61537 compliance statement, the equivalence table and an FOB Nhava Sheva quotation.
